Internet Explorer – disable extensions and addons

Internet Explorer has advanced support for many extensions and addons that have been generated throughout the years. However, unfortunately, this support has mostly been used in corporate environments or for malicious purposes. There doesn’t seem to be a strong middle ground.

While Internet Explorer as a whole is going by the wayside in favor of the new Edge Browser, Internet Explorer remains on many systems as a potential security threat.

This script removes the browsers support for extensions and addons which will clear another attack vector for malicious and adware extensions.

Simply execute this script on endpoints that don’t use Internet Explorer and it will run vanilla the next time it is run.

How it works:

Changes registry key ‘HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Enable Browser Extensions’ to ‘no’ for all users.
